The ability to investigate power depends, in part, on having the resources to do it.
Capital & Empire investigates the material interests behind American imperialism – who benefits from it, how it is sustained, and what it costs working people around the world.
Over the past year, I’ve published reporting based on classified CIA assessments that I believe the public deserves to know about. I’ve used sources in Congress to get behind lawmakers’ public positions on war and foreign policy, uncovering the negotiations, pressure campaigns, and political calculations shaping what they actually do. And I’ve traveled to Palestine and Cuba to report firsthand on the crimes committed in our name.
There are far more stories worth pursuing than I currently have the capacity to report.
Independent journalism has material conditions, too: it requires time, labor, and resources.
I’ve launched a fundraising campaign to support more reporting and travel, bring on research help, and make room for other journalists to contribute.
If you value this work, please consider making a one-time donation or becoming a monthly supporter.
All gifts are tax-deductible through Capital & Empire’s fiscal sponsor, the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation.
And whether or not you donate, sharing the campaign helps enormously. Send it around. And tell your friends (or enemies) inside the system to leak to me.
